Learning to Love Yourself the Way God Does

Learning to Love Yourself the Way God Does

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” — Mark 12:31

We talk often about loving others well, but rarely pause to examine how we love ourselves.

Many of us are patient, forgiving, and compassionate with everyone else—while being harsh, critical, and demanding with ourselves.

Self-love is not arrogance.
It’s alignment.

When self-love feels difficult, it’s often rooted in past wounds—rejection, abandonment, disappointment, or betrayal. Over time, those experiences can distort how we see ourselves and make love feel unsafe or conditional.

God’s love does not require perfection or performance.
It does not ask you to prove your worth.

Learning to love yourself begins with learning how to receive love—from God first.

Self-love looks like:

  • Setting boundaries without apology
  • Speaking to yourself with compassion
  • Resting without guilt
  • Allowing love to be gentle instead of earned

Be Loved was created for the woman learning how to open her heart again—to God, to herself, and to others—without rushing the process.

Reflection

  • How do I speak to myself when I fall short?
  • What experiences shaped how I understand love?
  • Where is God inviting me to soften?

Prayer

God,
Help me see myself the way You see me.
Heal the wounds that taught me love must be earned or withheld.
Teach me how to receive Your love without fear.
Show me how to extend that same grace and compassion to myself.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
